“Advances on sustainable maintenance for industry 5.0”
The concept of Industry 4.0 emerged around 2010 and is based on the vision of smart manufacturing for the future, using new technologies to maximize productivity and mass production. In recent years, however, this concept has been expanded, under the paradigm of Industry 5.0, to include the creativity of human experts in the loop, working in tandem with intelligent machines. In addition, manufacturing companies are challenged to integrate sustainable and responsible practices into their sourcing, production and distribution chains. One of the critical areas for better use of resources and assets, preserving them and extending their useful life is maintenance. Despite this realization, most studies in the literature focus on implementing standard/conventional methods and measures without considering and integrating environmental and social concerns.
This special session aims to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners to present and discuss the latest advances and challenges in the field of sustainable maintenance (SM), focusing on data collection, data processing and decision making.
• Architectures (hardware and software) for SM
• Sensing, monitoring, and cyber-physical systems in SM
• AI-based models in SM
• SM as a service
• Environmental impact and SM

“Artificial Intelligence in Biomechanics”
AI/ML algorithms have a wide range of applications, including in Biomechanics. But despite the advantages, such as fast computation times, non-linearity, and adaptability to real and complex problems, there are also drawback/challenges such as the need for a large amount of training data with a high variability that describes the real problem, choosing the right model to train, setting the parameters optimally, and designing the training process in such a way that there is no under- or overfitting.
After mastering these challenges, AI/ML has the potential to significantly increase the objectivity of decision-making in biomechanics and quickly solve complex problems in the future.
• Applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in biomechanics.
• Development of machine learning methods to support personalized soft tissue
modeling.
• Solving musculoskeletal biomechanics with machine learning methods.

“Smart Farming”
Agriculture has been evolving in a remarkable way since the agricultural revolution around 10,000 years ago, being increasingly technological together with the presence of great impact intelligent methodologies with applications in different areas such as the prediction of diseases and pests, the forecast of the best phase for harvesting or forecasting its volume.
However, agricultural technology is under immense challenges due to diseases and pests spread by globalization and aggravated by climate change. “Smart Wireless Sensor Networks for Forest Fire Prevention and Early Warning”
There is an urgent need for cost-effective smart real-time environmental monitoring systems to predict, detect and provide early warning of fire outbreak in wildlands, thus, preventing the development of extreme fires that have devastating consequences for people, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Current remote sensing technologies for observation and imaging of the earth’s surface suffer from low spatial and temporal resolution, high sensitivity to weather conditions and land surface topography, and high costs. Wireless sensor networks (WSN) in combination with the internet of things (IoT), low-power long-range wireless communication, cloud computing, big data (BD), and artificial intelligence (AI) offer an emerging promising solution for the prevention and early detection of wildfires. In practice, WSN face various kinds of issues like power constraints, resource constraints, unavailability of hardware, short-range communication, limited data processing and storage capacity, etc. that make the cost, time, and complexity involved in the deployment and implementation of WSN very high. This Special Session brings the latest advances in low-cost low-power small-size environmental sensors, open-source electronic platforms, wireless communication protocols, BD and AI techniques and algorithms to overcome the challenges surrounding WSN to turn it into an affordable, scalable, robust, and reliable technology for its application in the fight against wildfires in increasing areas of the planet.
• Micro/nanosensors for measuring meteorological parameters and forest fuel moisture, and for detecting fire ignition (hotspot, smoke, flame)
• Architecture and subsystems (sensing, processing, communication, power) of sensor nodes in WSN
• Design, dimensioning, architecture and topology of WSN
• Self-organization models for WSN
• Routing protocols for WSN
• Methods for evaluating the performance of WSN
• Integration, fusion and mining of data and information from multiple sources (including WSN) for wildfire risk assessment and mapping
• Artificial intelligence techniques (machine learning, deep learning) for wildfire risk prediction and detection based on WSN
